Therapy Day at Bloorview Kids Rehab
Saturday, May 15th – 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Families can explore new ways to provide therapy for their loved ones with Prader Willi SyndromeActivities include music therapy, snoezelen therapy and physiotherapy. Sessions will be reserved on a first come first swim basis – register now!
Music Therapy: It is the skillful use of music and its elements, such as rhythm, dynamics, and form, as a medium for positive change. It can encourage social behaviour, promote receptive and expressive communication, help to motivate movement, and redirect those behaviours that can challenge.
Snoezelen Therapy: Explore Canada’s first Snoezelen room and pool. Snoezelen rooms are artificially engineered spaces that use music, lighting effects, gentle vibrations, tactile sensations and aromatherapy. Designed to encourage relaxation, social skills and heighten sensory awareness, the room and pool provide a tranquil environment where users can relax and choose activities at their own pace. The Snoezelen pool creates a gently stimulating environment by combining lights, sounds and textures with the medicinal effects of a warm therapy pool.
Laura Hunter’s GymSkills: is a customized physical education program that develops skills for more successful participation in recreational and physical activity programs programs at school and in the community.
GymSkills develops:
- Balance
- Running, jumping and hopping skills
- Hand-eye coordination
- Muscular Strength, flexibility and agility
- Self-confidence and independence
